Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
An injured employee was denied needed surgery. The Tennessee Bureau of Workers\' Compensation Workers\' Compensation Appeals Board ruled in the worker\'s favor granting the surgery and clarifying confusing statutory law in favor of injured workers. In that same case the question of when attorneys fees could and should be awarded was addressed and Tennessee law was clarified in that regard. The style of that case is Bob Walls v United Technologies Corp., et al. Appeal from the Court of Workers\' Compensation Claims. Docket No.: 2019--05-0371, State File No.: 57369-2018.
How did you build a successful practice?
Primarily by word of mouth, case by case with limited advertising for the most part.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Integrity, experience and someone who listens.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Knowledge of the judges is helpful and somewhat important, but I travel and at any given time will have one or more cases out of state. Juries appear to be largely the same all over. I believe understanding jury dynamics is more important that the local politics of the the various judges in a locale.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I can advise of possible causes of action, check the statute of limitations in most cases and recommend a course of action if requested.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
The correct date of the injury. A full description of the mechanism of the injury/ies and a full description of the scope of the injury/ies.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I am the first attorney in Murfreesboro to devote the practice solely to personal injury and workers\' compensation. Also, I have been in practice longer than most of the other practicing attorneys.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Helping people.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Playing music. I enjoy both keyboards and guitars. Also, I have been a scuba diver since 1980 and continue to dive when possible with my most recent adventure being a dive in Cozumel in 2021.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes. I am a member of Lawyers Involved for Tennessee which deals with consumer issues affecting the public. I am also active in my church. I also serve on a non-profit for a community cemetery.
