Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
In October 2013 I tried the case of a client charged with raping a friend of his girlfriend who had come back to the girlfriend's house after a night out. He acknowledged consensual sex, but denied he raped her. The jury returned a not guilty verdict; In September I had a client Charged simultaneously with four DUI's and was able to negotiate a resolution where each was plead as a simple DUI instead of receiving the statutory enhancements
How did you build a successful practice?
By gaining reputation for being aggressive, but not offensive, and being willing to try cases instead of talking clients into taking plea offers. Also by making sure every call or text or email is replied to so that clients see me as responsive.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
A detail oriented person who will prepare each case as if it is going to be tried and who will listen to what the client wants the resolution of a case to be as opposed to trying to reach the result the lawyer thinks should be reached.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Very important. It helps a great deal to have good relationships with prosecutors and other defense lawyers, and it is important for them to know how you handle cases.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
General docket information, information about what someone is charged with, analysis of the facts of the case, information about the law and how it applies to those facts and information about my fee.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Facts of the case, location of the case, date of conduct alleged, the court the case will be in, the actual charges brought and the individuals prior record.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Willingness to successfully try cases and a reputation with prosecutors I deal with for being prepared and capable
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Helping people get through hard times to get their lives back on track.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Avid fan of all sports, but especially Notre Dame football: middle school boys basketball coach, and high school girls AAU basketball coach.
Are you involved in your community?
Through my coaching work.
