About David
Born and raised in Newport News, Virginia, David Holt has over 15 years of trial and litigation experience. He earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington and Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law.
Holt was admitted to the Virginia Bar in October 2003 and went on to work for then-Senator Ken Stolle of the 8th District in Virginia Beach. It was there he gained valuable civil and criminal law experience as Senator Stolle’s aide for the portions of the 2004 General Assembly Session.
Prior to attending law school, Holt was a Hampton police officer and worked closely with the Hampton Police’s Training Division in developing protocols and training materials for new recruits.
Holt later returned to Hampton as a prosecutor, where he litigated hundreds of trials and was involved in multiple convictions of highly complex gang and murder cases. He concentrated on complicated narcotics and illegal gun investigations. He has lectured other prosecutors and law enforcement agencies around the state on the Fourth, Fifth and Six Amendment areas of the law.
Holt is a graduate of the esteemed Career Prosecutor School in Charleston, S.C., where he spent time collaborating, teaching, learning, and practicing all aspects of trial and courtroom practice.
He was also on the teaching staff at the National District Attorneys Association and taught trial practice skills at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, S.C.
Mr. Holt is admitted to the Virginia State Bar, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, U.S. District Court, Western District of Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Outside of the office, Holt is an addicted CrossFit athlete, enjoys squash and plays soccer regularly. He is a managing partner for Shooting Space Lacrosse and sits on the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton, which is a NASA/Langley visitor’s center in downtown. Additionally, he has served on the board of directors for the Over Thirty Soccer League for over 15 years. He and his wife, Heather, live in Norfolk with their three boys and two dogs.
