After working as a law clerk, I practiced a few years as an insurance defense litigation attorney, which pays poorly, works you to death as a John Grisham story describes, but extensively trains you in the court rules and their nuances, how to investigate a claim (or defend against it) and what is or is not obtainable from a Judge; the thankless and brutal first couple of years after law school but vital on the job training that would benefit every lawyer (and probably should be required). With tort reform and insurance work becoming scarce, I turned to general practice law to keep the bills paid. I have handled thousands of divorces big and small (hate them) and other family law cases. I have handled numerous felony cases, thousands of misdemeanors, many, many real estate transactions, and contract disputes, landlord-tenant matters, social security claims, employment-related claims, personal injury claims, worker's compensation claims, probating estates, planned many estates, drafted many, many wills and trusts, and handled many appellate cases. Over twenty-five years ago, I quite coincidentally found a niche in Bankruptcy law, probably because it offers the opportunity to tackle complicated legal issues, does a lot of good for clients quickly usually at an affordable price, and reflects my view of how the law should be practiced and disputes resolved: Quickly, by people who know the law, who are fair-minded and practical. Fifty percent of my work is debt work out related. The rest is business law, contracts, litigation, real estate, and estate work. I take the rare family law case.
