Mr. Ellzey immediately began defending criminal clients in Volusia County Court and was later promoted to the Circuit Court where he defended hundreds of felony cases. At the Public Defender's Office, he was a "Capture the Flag" Award recipient numerous times for Not Guilty jury verdicts.
Mr. Ellzey's background as a Public Defender has offered him the opportunity to assist clients who are often going through extremely stressful and emotional events. This background allows him to have the compassion and experience to help someone through a divorce, child custody matter, or any family law issue. This experience also gives him a solid foundation to work with opposing counsel to solve a family's problems and achieve favorable results. In cases where an agreement is not reached or is not possible his background as an experienced trial attorney allows him the ability to aggressively represent a client's interest in court.
Mr. Ellzey also serves as a Guardian ad Litem where he utilizes his legal skills and perspective to help children who are the subject of litigation. As a Guardian ad Litem, Mr. Ellzey is able to inform the Court about the children's wishes and advise on the children's best interest.
Mr. Ellzey is a native Floridian and military veteran. He joined the United States Air Force as an active duty weather forecaster in 1997 and is currently a Captain in the Florida Air National Guard. He was activated in 2001 for Operation Noble Eagle and again in 2004 for Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Mr. Ellzey attended the University of Florida and graduated from the Telecommunication-News Program from the College of Journalism & Communications. He attended law school at Florida International University's College of Law in Miami, where he was awarded a Public Service Fellowship to work with the Clean Water Network of Florida in Tallahassee and worked in the FIU College of Law's Juvenile Justice Education Clinic.

He is admitted to practice in all State & Federal Courts in Florida and a member of the Volusia County Bar Association's Family Law Division, Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and Volusia County's Young Professional Group.
