Mr. Weiss is a partner in the Commercial Litigation Department. He focuses his practice on reinsurance and insurance coverage matters.
Mr. Weiss represents both cedents and reinsurers in federal litigation, as well as in private arbitrations and mediations. His practice also includes advising both property and casualty, and life and health, insurance and reinsurance companies on underwriting and claims handling issues. He has advised and assisted companies in arranging, and resolving disputes over, transfers of books of business to other insurers, addressing coverage and reinsurance issues arising out of September 11, and resolving billing disputes short of litigation. He has also analyzed coverage issues under direct insurance policies on behalf of the issuing insurer.
Mr. Weiss has published a number of articles on reinsurance-related issues, including discoverability of reinsurance communications, coverage questions presented by September 11, and the state of the law on compromise awards in reinsurance arbitrations.
