About Deborah
Deborah Farmer Smith practices exclusively in the areas of family law and alternative dispute resolution. She received her B.S., cum laude, from Butler University in 1976 and her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, in 1983 from the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. Ms. Farmer Smith joined Cohen Garelick & Glazier in 2016 after practicing for 32 years with Campbell Kyle Proffitt LLP.
Ms. Farmer Smith is one of fewer than twenty Fellows of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in Indiana. She has co-chaired the Family Law Certification Board, which certifies attorneys as family law specialists in Indiana, since 2002, and is a Certified Family Law Specialist. Deb is also a Registered Domestic Relations Mediator in Indiana, and has successfully mediated hundreds of family law matters. She has also served as a family law arbitrator.
Deb is a former Chair of the Family & Juvenile Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association, and in 2010 received its Gale M. Phelps Award. She has been listed numerous times in recent years as a Super Lawyer in family law by Indianapolis Monthly magazine, including having been listed among the Top 25 Women Attorneys in Indiana. She has the A-V rating in Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating available.
Ms. Farmer Smith served as the first Counsel to the President of the Indiana Bar Association, after two years on its Board of Managers. She has received three Presidential Citations from the ISBA. Deb is also a former President of the Indiana Bar Foundation. She has chaired and spoken at dozens of seminars for the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum. When not practicing law, Deb is the pianist for the First United Methodist Church in Noblesville, and has conducted many musical theater productions at local community theaters, for which she has received nine Encore Awards.
