About Debra
Debra Tama, born in Bronx, New York, was admitted to the New York Bar in 1989. She graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. degree from Long Island University in 1981 and her J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1988. She is also currently admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of New York; the District of Colorado; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Ms. Tama’s practice emphasizes products liability defense, first- and third-party insurance disputes, and other complex litigation. She primarily represents European manufacturers and insurers, and their U.S. affiliates, in litigation and other forms of dispute resolution in the United States. During recent years, Ms. Tama has handled an array of high-profile matters, including a number of insurance disputes arising out of the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001. One of these disputes included mediation proceedings before former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell, which resulted in a settlement to facilitate the redevelopment of Ground Zero. In addition, she obtained the dismissal of a number of class action lawsuits filed in three states against a European manufacturer arising out of the November 2000, Kaprun, Austria, ski train fire.
