Dennis Riley is a practicing attorney in the state of New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers University Law School with his J.D. in 1972. He went to Xavier U.studying Political Science for his B.S. degree (1967). In 1965 he became an aide to Congressman Gilligan (D, 1st District Ohio). He then received a fellowship to the University of Cincinnati in Urban Affairs. After receiving his J.D.and passing the NJ Bar he started his practice in 1972.

In 1973 he became the Prosecutor, as well as Solicitor of the Rent Control Board for Lindenwold. He has since served as Solicitor for Zoning or Planning Boards in Gloucester and Winslow Townships, the Boroughs of Clementon and Audubon, as well as being Assistant County Counsel (Camden County) Public Defender In Clementon and the Solicitor of Magnolia & Chesilhurst Boroughs.

He was the Assemblyman for NJ's 4th District (Camden, Gloucester & Atlantic Counties) 1979-90
