Derek was born and raised in Utah. He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor Degree in Law and Constitutional Studies. After completing his undergraduate studies, he went on to obtain his Juris Doctorate from Rutgers School of Law, where he focused on the areas of bankruptcy law, secured transactions, family law, and estates and trusts.
While attending Rutgers, Derek received honors and awards for his extensive involvement with the Honorable Judith H. Wizmur Bankruptcy Pro Bono Project in addition to his involvement with the Wills for Heroes Foundation which he continues to precipitate in.
Derek is an active member of the Utah State Bar and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Utah.
Derek has helped hundreds of Utah residents obtain debt relief through Bankruptcy. However, for those clients who chose not to file for Bankruptcy but still have a mountain of debt, Derek has successfully negotiated with their creditors to lower their debt.
When Derek is not aggressively advocating for his clients, he can often be found in the outdoors hiking, camping or riding horses.
