About Derek

Derek D. McLeod is an associate of Hertz Schram PC where he handles commercial, securities, employment and ERISA litigation matters. In this capacity, Mr. McLeod regularly appears before federal and state trial courts on a wide variety of issues, including hearings on dispositive motions. Moreover, he has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the Michigan Court of Appeals. In addition to his active litigation practice, Mr. McLeod recently co-authored articles concerning business defamation claims and Michigan's security breach notification law.

A cum laude and Phi Kappa Phi graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, Mr. McLeod received his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 2003. He is a member of both the State Bar of Michigan and The Florida Bar, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.  He has also been admitted to practice pro hac vice before various federal district courts.  Before entering private practice, Mr. McLeod served as a law clerk to the Honorable Victoria A. Roberts of the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan.

In 2008, Mr. McLeod was named an Up & Coming Lawyer by Michigan Lawyers Weekly and a Rising Star by Michigan Super Lawyers. While an undergraduate, he was the 2000 recipient of the James K. Coleman Award for Excellence in Constitutional Law.
