Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Recently my client pled not guilty to a felony malicious wounding charge in Norfolk Circuit Court. After he told me what happened, I determined that his best option was asserting self-defense. I tracked down witnesses, including a law enforcement officer whose testimony corroborated my client's defense and I was able to prove that the alleged victim was the initial aggressor. The charge was dismissed.

How did you build a successful practice?

My practice is built completely upon referrals. I do not do much marketing so I rely upon satisfied clients to share their experience with others.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

You want to hire a lawyer who is familiar with the court system in which the case will be tried and the legal issues involved. The attorney needs to craft a case that reflects the client's unique set of circumstances. The most important thing is that you hire an attorney in whom you have confidence.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge of the judges, prosecutors, and other opposing counsel in each jurisdiction are all factors that contributes to a successful outcome. Each court has its own personality. An attorney who knows that jurisdiction is at an advantage.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Provide information regarding how I would handle the case and information to retain my services.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

I will need the potential client's name, telephone number, and email along with a brief description of the nature of their legal inquiry, and locality of the legal issue.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I have 20 years of courtroom trial experience in a variety of legal matters in all jurisdictions of Hampton Roads.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Whether arguing successfully for my client' release from incarceration or successfully litigating a family law matter, reuniting loved ones is the most rewarding aspect of my job.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I enjoy watching a competitive football game, fishing, and good food with my wife and children.

Are you involved in your community?

Growing up in Hampton Roads, my family and I participated in charity events and I have continued that dedication to service as an adult by volunteering my time with charities including my local church.
