About Doricia
Doricia Miller Rivas was born in Chicago, Illinois. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University in 1982 and continued her studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she was awarded a Master of Arts in English Literature in 1986. While a graduate student, Doricia was a student in the summer session at England's renowned Oxford University.
Doricia pursued the study of law at Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida. While at Stetson, she was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for academic excellence. Doricia graduated from Stetson cum laude [with honors] in 1993.
Admitted to the Florida Bar in 1993, Doricia has had diverse and extensive legal experience. After graduating from law school, she worked as a legal researcher in local government law at the Hillsborough County Attorney's Office. While an associate at a specialized real estate firm, Doricia litigated lien foreclosures, as well as writing corporate documents for real estate developers and homeowners associations. Doricia has had further experience as an insurance defense attorney in the field of workers' compensation. Additionally, she practiced law with a firm representing the Florida Department of Revenue in the enforcement of child support and paternity cases.
Upon joining the Public Defender's Office, Orlando, Doricia obtained valuable experience in criminal defense. She represented hundreds of clients from misdemeanor traffic cases to life felonies, and was lead attorney in numerous trials. Doricia was voted Best Advocate at the Public Defender College.
In 2008, Doricia was a founding partner of The Rivas Law Firm, P.A. in Winter Park, Florida. She is dedicated to bringing her experience and knowledge to the aid of her clients.
