About Douglas
Douglas D. Brown, Attorney at Law, is a father of three, and has practiced personal injury law, criminal defense and family law in Tangipahoa Parish for two decades. After working in Washington, D.C. for Congressman Richard Baker, Brown served as a judicial law clerk for State District Judges Ray Chutz in Amite and M. Douglas Hughes in Livingston. He later served as the City of Hammond's Assistant City Prosecutor and first In House Attorney. Before earning a JD degree at Louisiana State University's Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Brown attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and earned a BA degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in Economics. Brown's felony trial practice includes homicide, drug trafficking, kidnapping, burglary, and DWI.
Brown has been a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Louisiana Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers, The Twenty First Judicial District Bar Association, and the Florida Parishes Inns of Court. In his spare time, Brown has been a Little League Coach for the Hammond City Recreation Department, served as the Hammond Eastside Magnet PTA Vice President, and has been a CASA Volunteer Trainer. He has also been a member of several parading organizations, having ridden in the Krewe of Endymion, The Original Krewe of Orpheus, and most recently with the Hammond Krewe of Omega.

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I represented a husband and father who was falsely accused of a sex crime. The allegations were very far-fetched, he had never even had so much as a speeding ticket before, and he passed a lie detector test. The State wanted him to plea bargain anyway, but he was innocent, and a plea of any kind would have followed him for the rest of his life. We went to trial in February, 2017, and even though the State fought hard to convict him, the judge dismissed the case.
How did you build a successful practice?
I have built a successful practice by giving my clients personal attention, by working hard, studying the law as often as I can, and by providing excellent service.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
My mobile number is on my website, my Facebook page, and my business card, because I want to be accessible. When you call me for a free phone consultation, I will listen to you and find out as much as I can about your case as we can, and discuss what the law says about your kind of case, whether it be personal injury, criminal defense, family law or adultery divorce.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Most lawyers are good at talking. I pride myself on being good at listening, too.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding access of my job is meeting someone at one of the worst times of their life, injured, arrested, or with a family breaking apart, and making a difference in their life. That is why I do what I do.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I love Mardi Gras! I have participated on some level in four "krewes": The Original Krewe of Orpheus in Mandeville, The Krewe of Endymion, The Krewe of Eros, and the Hammond, Louisiana Krewe of Omega. I also enjoy writing fiction and have published one novel, Ascension: A Novel of Politics. I am also an amateur musician, and have enjoyed singing baritone in the Northshore Choral Society. I am also a huge fan of musical theater.
