Mr. Mazel’s practice is concentrated on Chapter 11 bankruptcies, creditor’s rights, workouts, real estate matters, and commercial litigation. Mr. Mazel has experience in all areas of bankruptcy law, including workouts and commercial litigation.  Mr. Mazel has represented national, regional, and local banks as well as national businesses and other lenders. Mr. Mazel has significant experience negotiating and documenting workouts, including loan modifications, forbearance agreements, deeds in lieu of foreclosure, and settlements. Additionally, Mr. Mazel has significant experience representing debtors and creditors in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 bankruptcies, including common issues like use of cash collateral, objections to schedules and statements, stay relief, disclosure statements, plan confirmation, objections to dischargeability, fraudulent transfer and preference actions and other adversary proceedings.

Mr. Mazel is actively involved in the State Bar of New Mexico, where he is a member of the Bankruptcy Law Section and has served as a volunteer arbitrator in connection the New Mexico State Bar’s Fee Arbitration Program. Mr. Mazel regularly participates in the Wills for Heroes program which provides free wills to police officers, fire fighters, EMTs and other first responders. Additionally, Mr. Mazel provides pro bono legal services through the Volunteer Attorney Program including Law La Palooza and Ask a Lawyer Call-In program on Law Day, and has recently begun lecturing on bankruptcy law and litigation issues.

Mr. Mazel practiced Bankruptcy Law under the mentorship of Robert H. Jacobvitz, now the Honorable Robert H. Jacobvitz, United States Bankruptcy Judge, District of New Mexico. In 2008, Mr. Mazel received the American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence in Bankruptcy and the Judge Oliver Seth Award for Excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Mazel was a political consultant and a contract lobbyist. Mr. Mazel has achieved a BV rating in bankruptcy, general practice and litigation. In January 2013, Mr. Mazel was appointed as a Chapter 7 panel trustee for the state of New Mexico by the Office of the United States Trustee.
