Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

In bankruptcy law practice, we make significant differences to our clients every day. We are allow them to literally re-start their financial, and many times personal existences. I frequently hear from clients who thank us for helping them through the "darkest" or "most difficult" period of their lives. They find out that filing is not the end but is a new beginning.

How did you build a successful practice?

Gudeman & Associates, P.C. prides itself on being responsive to client's needs. We believe that if we take care of our clients; they will take care of us with their referrals. So we work hard on client satisfaction. We are not perfect, but we are always trying to be.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Integrity, experience, work ethic.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Sensitivity to the issues that drive client's into precarious financial positions is very important. In the southeastern Michigan area there are many causes of financial stress for our clients, be it the Detroit Bankruptcy, exporting of jobs from the auto industry, slow economic recovery, etc. We try to be sensitive to all of them and that allows us to be more understanding of our clients' needs.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

While phone consultations are helpful, we believe that a personal interview is far more important. While a telephone interview is purposeful, it does not allow for the same kind of exchange between attorney and client. We provide no obligation consultations, so our clients typically spend 1-1.5 hours with an attorney going over their financial situation and providing answers and recommendations. If our clients decide not to retain us, there is no charge for our time valued at $250-$375.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

If clients insist on telephone consultations, we will email them a questionnaire to complete and a checklist of documents.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

We have more years of experience in bankruptcy practice than most of the attorneys in this area. We have an impeccable track record. We have never failed to obtain a discharge for our Chapter 7 clients and, as long as our clients were making their plan payments, we have successfully obtained confirmation for all those Chapter 13 clients.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Helping people by assisting them with the rights that they are given by the law. Most clients are unaware of just how powerful the Bankruptcy Code is. It can help them turn their lives around.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

My family, photography, skiing and golf (although I rarely have enough time to play).

Are you involved in your community?

I assist several charitable organizations and I am also a member of the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce.
