Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I recently co-counseled a case against a major airbag component manufacturer for a young woman who had a stroke when she was 19 because her airbag didn't deploy during a high speed frontal collision. After a month long federal jury trial, we obtained a multi-million dollar jury verdict.
How did you build a successful practice?
Tenacity and punctuality. Our firm emphasizes customer service and frequently exceeds our clients' expectations. Even after their case has been resolved, our staff continues to negotiate their medical liens, which oftentimes results in our clients receiving thousands of dollars more.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
A good lawyer is one who will work your case as though his firm depended on it, no matter the size of the claim. A great lawyer does this for every client.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Good working relationships with the attorneys on the other side are always helpful. It's also beneficial to have a reputation for working hard and knowing your way around the courtroom, which only comes from years of experience (I've been practicing law for more than 38 years). Personal experience with the individual judges also helps, because you learn what's important to them and how your clients' arguments should be framed.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Whether or not we can help you. Typically, my staff will screen the potential claims and we can tell you, sometimes in a matter of minutes, whether we can handle your case. Even in cases we don't end up accepting, we will oftentimes still be able to refer prospective clients to another lawyer who can assist them.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
It is very helpful to have all of your facts in order. We often recommend that people write out everything that occurred, in chronological order. My office staff will always want to know the location of the incident, how it was caused, whether or not there were witnesses, the injuries that you suffered, what medical providers you have treated with since, whether or not you had any prior injuries, and whether or not you have had prior legal cases. Depending on the individual circumstances of your case, we may also require additional information so that we can best protect your interests.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
No matter how large or small the claim is, I work all my cases to the best of my abilities.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Getting people through what can oftentimes be the most trying experience of their lives.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I love to cook, kayak and spend quality time with my family.
Are you involved in your community?
I support local charities with donations, but I leave the volunteer work to my wife, Donna, and our dog, Jordan. Jordan is a registered therapy dog and she and my wife volunteer at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. They also participate in Reading with Rover, which is a program through the Henderson Library District that helps first through fifth graders who are struggling readers.
