About Edward

I was born in Brooklyn and raised in Staten Island. Today, I still live in Staten Island with my wife and three daughters.

I began working at eight years old in my father's dry cleaning store. There, I learned the value of hard work and how to take care of customers. Having learned these valuable lessons as a child has assisted me immeasurably as an adult in both my personal and professional life. I have especially enjoyed over the past few years working with the members of the FDNY. My wife’s father, who I have known since I was 15 years old, is a retired member so I have a personal interest in taking care of firefighters.

The nicest thing that anyone has ever said about me professionally was that “Ed really cares about his clients.”  This concept is very important to me. In most cases, the decision that a client makes is life-changing. As important as it is to give advice to clients, often it is more important to listen to them. Just as important is being honest with my clients from the outset of the relationship. My goal is to develop a relationship with each client and not to have clients say to me with respect to settling his or her case, “You are the lawyer.” Rather, I encourage my clients to ask, “Ed, what do you think?” My clients know that they can always count on an honest answer from me.  I will never just tell them what they want to hear.

It was my work with the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001 that led to my friendship with Michael Barasch. During the course of that campaign we had a free flow of ideas and worked extremely well together in order to maximize the benefits received by our mutual clients.  For two years I was privileged to represent over 60 firefighter widows and hundreds of injured firefighters.

Establishing an of counsel relationship with Barasch McGarry Salzman & Penson is a perfect fit for me. I get to continue working with firefighters and it allows me to get back to negligence cases. My first job out of law school was with a very high-volume personal injury firm where I tried my first case just four months after being admitted to the bar. Since that time I have had my own practice and have worked for one of the largest personal injury firms in the nation. Each experience has taught me valuable lessons in the area of personal injury law. No other kind of law would or could give me greater satisfaction. I love representing the so-called little guy against the powerful defendant. There is truly nothing else I would rather do with my professional life.
