Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I represented the estate of a poor unemployed young man who died on the table during a procedure to install a dialysis catheter. The defense focused on the fact that the decedent was a diabetic who did not expect to live for a long time. I focused on the fact that laceration of his blood vessel was a breach of the standard of care, and that all life is sacred. I was also involved in a wrongful death trial that resulted in a seven figure verdict for the death of an 83 year old man. Significant verdict, in light of the advanced age of the decedent.
How did you build a successful practice?
I built a successful practice by being a legal educator, teaching law school, and being involved in the community.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for empathy in a lawyer, and a willingness to learn the technical aspects of each case.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is important because you ought to culturally understand who might be on your jury.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
We provide information about our experience in similar cases, the statute of limitations, the legal requirements of bringing a successful case, and our guarantee of no fees unless we are successful. We also need to know all the interested parties up front so we can check for conflicts.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
The facts of the case, the location of the occurrence, the interested parties, the nature and extent of the injury. Location is important so we can check the potential venue of the case.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I was an adjunct law professor. In that role, I used to teach future lawyers how to prepare for everything from opening statements to closing arguments. For years, I have been a student of the law as well as the process.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of what I do is to bring justice and accountability to those who think they are too powerful to be held responsible.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I serve on the Board of Trustees of a university, play golf, and take care of my family.
Are you involved in your community?
I am still very involved in education. I also serve on the Uniform Jury Instruction Committee, and on the Admissions Committee of one of our Courts.
