Applied for an account online 4 weeks ago. Never got an email that even acknowledge my application. I called once a week ago to check on the status and the lady said I should be hearing something soon. I called again today since I haven't heard anything in a week. The lady says that I should be receiving a letter in the next 5-7 business days. My question was, what does the letter say? Her response is that she doesn't know and no one there does. So you guys send a letter and you don't know what it says? I am also lost as to why they don't just send me an email. It is quicker and more secure. Ally Bank will not be getting my business, and you should do your research before they get yours.

They wouldn't let me store the other half of my sandwich in my safety deposit box! How ridiculous is that? That was probably the best sandwich I ever made in my life! It was to good to finish so I wanted to save it in case I forgot what it tasted like five or ten years down the road, but no they say 'it will rot and ruin the box'. What a shame, I have since forgotten what that sandwich tasted like and how I made it, my life will never be the same, thank you Ally Bank. But you let my friend keep his dead blue ribbon awarded pigs ashes in his, but not a sandwich? Ugh, never again!

Wow, I'm surprised by so many negative reviews. I've had savings and CD accounts with Ally (formerly GMAC) Bank for over a decade and haven't had any problems at all. Once in a while I have to mail in a form rather than fill one out online, for example for a Roth IRA conversion I just did. But other online banks probably require the same. Most things can be done online. Ally has always offered the highest interest rate on their Online Savings Account, and some of the highest rates on their CDs. I now do all my saving with Ally.

I have a car loan with these guys. I have an outrageous API due to a divorce and when I wanted to refinance, Ally said 'We don't refinance anything PERIOD!' this is what a rep told me when talking to them on the phone. wished i would have found a different way to finance my car. they do not help you with anything unless it is a payment.

Ally sucks to work with. Don't borrow from them
