I was a legal secretary for years. We charged a flat fee for an uncontested divorce and told clients what the fee was up front over the phone. We also told them, that if both parties did not agree and sign the first time around, the fee would increase. This attorney charges $200 just to get a price quote over the phone. There was no consultation. There was nothing to consult about. Half of the TEN MINUTES of your time I received was you running my credit card and the other half was you telling me how nobody would handle this for less than $2500. No property, no children, waiver of appearance even. This is an hours work for your secretary to fill in the blanks and maybe an hour for you before the judge IF you even have to appear in court (or get it signed while there for something else). If your minimum price for an uncontested divorce is $2500 then just say so up front. Ripping me off $200 to tell me that is just that. A ripoff.
