Law Office Of David B. Gates

This law firm was great at the start and then I started getting other ppls cases sent to me and from there it went to no communication at all besides about giving him money my case is still not finished and been fighting to get a hold of the attorney I hired for a year now. Do not hire this firm it's a waste of money.

I am really unsure why David Gates law has so many bad reviews. We hired David for a very high profile, high conflict case that our last attorney was too passive for. I am going to tell you, compared to many other attorneys we have consulted with or hired in the past, David's office has been nothing but professional and has been spot on with our case. Throughout the past 9 months Jessica (one of the other attorneys in the office) has fronted our case with excellence. Has given us premier legal advice, and helped with keeping the stress of being on the receiving end of a high conflict situation, to a very low level. They know how to handle the other party in this kind of case and we're amazing at communicating with us throughout the process. 5 stars all day long and if we need then again after our trial this week we will be sure to retain them as they are exactly who we needed in our corner. Thank you for being so.awesome in such a stressful time!!

I am only giving one star bc there is no option for zero stars. David Gates mishandled my case from the beginning. I should have known there was an issue when he continually referred to my son as ‘Hunter’ in documents.  That isn't even close to his name. This seemed minor but I began to get concerned when he was continually reminded but made the same simple error over and over again in legal documents moving forward. I soon realized that was just the beginning of his inability to represent me. He continually left out information he was provided or put incorrect information in documents, which included important monetary information.  He decided to not present information I had provided and said needed to be included bc he didn’t think the court cared enough to hear about them. He filed zero evidence I gave him. I at a point refused to sign a document he prepared because the inaccurate information was not changed! He then tried to bully me into signing it right before our hearing but I continued to refuse. He has been non-responsive in emails and his assistants emailed me back saying that they cannot answer those questions for Mr. Gates. He sent someone else to my first hearing and notified me via email the day of, which I received in the courthouse.  He also did not check to see if the hearing was confirmed by the other party, which it wasn’t so I did not have to show up which would have been good to know since I had to drive from Oregon. He showed up late to our second hearing. I was unable to communicate with him directly and my questions/concerns frequently went unanswered. He did not file responses on my behalf that affected the outcome of the hearings.  He did not disclose evidence filed against me by my ex-husband including financial documents. They were referred to in a response he wrote and when I asked them for the documents they told me they were never filed. My ex-husbands attorney called them to ask if they were seeing them online. They continued to tell me they were not there. The day of my hearing 30 minutes before I was leaving for court they apparently found them and forwarded it to my email (they didn’t even provide a phone call to let me know to check my email) with no apologies for overlooking these documents that were filed 2 weeks prior! I did not have enough time to review and respond to the documents and they did not bring up their error in court as I had asked them to do. He never contacted me to review what we were going to present and afterwards never reached out to me to explain next steps and orders. I asked to meet early before our second hearing and his assistant wrote me back saying they would be there at 1:30 (hearing was at 2:30) but he showed up late! We are pursuing this legally. He should not be allowed to practice and gives a bad name to lawyers everywhere!!!

This lawfirm was negligent and convicted by the wa state bar association for professional misconduct in 2019 ...mr gates did not attend necessary appointments..nor did he provide any documentation to me about my case for the three years. Even when I requested it ...then he passed me off to his partner Dj Hastings and I received no better representation then with mr gates. Both attorneys admitted they had not done their jobs and when asked why ...their answers were i dont know...i have all documents pertaining to this case..and potential clients should look this firm up before retaining their services. Over all loss for me 7 years of my life ... my race car ....and 80,000.00 lawsuit..plus 15000.00 dollar lien against my home...all i can do is post this in hopes to make people aware

David Gates refuses to send me a copy of my legal file, which is required by law. He dropped me as a client in court, rather than giving me prior notice. His reason for doing so was because the opposing party thought they probably called his office, but admitted they never had an actual consultation. Lazy at best. Run away.
