I have used Nadel & Ciarlo several times over the last few years and have always had an incredible experience. They are experienced, kind, patient, and affordable. My landlord was trying to increase the lease of my rent-stabilized apartment by $300 / month, and told me I would be evicted if I did not pay the additional amount. I tried navigating our lease agreement myself, but it was too complicated and I thought a lawyer would be too expensive. I asked some friends, who grew up in NYC, if they could refer me to an attorney and came across Nadel and Ciarlo. N&C reviewed the lease, sent a letter to my landlord, and I received an apology and written confirmation from my landlord that my rent would never increase beyond a small percent each year. The second time I used N&C, there was a leak in the apartment above me that destroyed all of my furniture and personal belongings. I notified my landlord that there was a small drip coming through the ceiling light fixture, but they did not respond to my emails or calls for 2 days. On the 3rd day, the pipe in my ceiling burst, sending so much water into my apartment that it was 6 inches high. Unfortunately, I did not have renter's insurance that would cover the $50k in furniture and personal items I had lost. After we could not settle with our landlord's insurance company, N&C brought the case to court where I was awarded $150k for damage of personal items, negligence, and the cost of the hotels I stayed in until my apartment was fixed. N&C is not only aggressive and ready to go to court if necessary, but their reputation precedes them. Both of my landlords, and the insurance companies we dealt with, were fearful when they learned that I had retained Lorraine Nadel. While they are tough litigators, they are sympathetic and optimistic when learning about their clients legal matter and helping them prepare for depositions and trials.
