Elizabeth River Tunnel Scam, yes you have to pay it. Yes it's whats wrong with our country. Received notice of toll after 2 months. Website was down for a week. Received notice of non payment a couple weeks later. Went from $5 to 25 dollars. Certain i paid it but received notice of debt a month later. $80 to clear my debt. This is absolutely shady. Everyone needs to make money, how about we let our tax dollars pay for the roadway.
Just got off with their representative, Ryan, who tried to coerce me into paying $184 when the notice I received listed an amount of $97. I told him I was calling to validate and verify that I owe this debt and to get confirmation on the total balance of the alleged debt. He told me repeatedly, “I don’t know what you’re asking for.” Consumers, what Ryan did was absolutely in violation of consumer protection laws. Debt collectors use all kinds of shady and illegal practices to try to get you to pay money you don’t owe or more than you actually owe and will do their best to avoid verifying the validity of alleged debts. Do not fall for it. Know your rights before you call, and stay firm. Especially with agencies like this one.
Victoria, the representative I spoke to would not let me speak to anyone above her authority, claiming her manager “was busy and not there”, I told her that I did NOT receive a bill for the tunnels, or a late fee bill. And she claimed it’s my fault they sent it to the wrong address, IF they even did that. Which I find hard to believe considering I’ve gotten every other bill sent to my updated address. After asking multiple times to speak to her manager she disconnected the line. I hope whoever is above her reads this because this is against any law offices in policy’s and I will be following through with a formal, written complaint. See you in court.
Tried to resolve via EZ pass and was advised we must address issues with this firm. Could not get in touch with personnel so i figured to just pay to not affect my credit. Never EVER received a first notice then received letter saying Second Notice with fees applied. Tried paying from their webpage 2x and then it locked me out saying it could not process and try again in 24 hrs. Tried this multiple times on various days. Then tried using the QR code - says cannot process. Then tried by phone - in the middle of providing payment, the call hung up. Their automated system hung up during this process twice. Third attempt i could finally complete my payment. Their process makes is difficult to resolve payment and can likely accrue in additional fees. This should be criminal.
This company buys fraudulent Elizabeth River Tunnel Toll debt. Elizabeth River then tells you there is nothing they can do and you must contact them to work it out. When you call them, they are nasty, won't let you speak, and then they are more interested in collecting their debt, then understanding the situation. The Virginia Commonwealth should investigate this scam.
