Everyone experience is different. Ms Shirley was very helpful and polite when I called. I was calling to fax documents in regards to my license being suspended. She got my fax while we were on the phone and took care of my payment! And she gave me a website to order seafood from since I'm in Baltimore!
You have to know what you are getting into here. You ARE going to wait in line, no getting around that. MOST IMPORTANT - do your research..Bring every document you may think you need. Nothing worse than waiting in line just to realize you forgot something. They separate the groups of folks waiting depending on what you are there for - this seems like the more efficient method. I dealt with 2 different employees, both helpful. However, one was inanimate and didn't say more than he/she needed to, the other was more social and seemed to care about his/her job.nnYou can get here before they open and wait in line outside. When I arrived just before 8am, there were about 40 people ahead of me. I went to help someone with an insurance flag and I updated my license to RealID. We both finished around the same time - took right at 2 hours.nnBring change for the vending machine!nnThey don't take cash for some services, but do take major credit/debit cards including AMEX.
I live in New Orleans. I called to pay a fee over the phone. The call wait time was around 30 minutes which was about an hour less than if I had walked into a local DMV so no loss there. The staff, both times that I called, were so friendly that I feel I picked the wrong city to live in. nAlso, if you call in and get a number selection or music, don't hang up! Stick it out. If you call back 30 seconds later you could get a message saying call volume at maximum and then get automatically disconnected. You're waiting in a much much shorter line.
Worst place in the United States to try to get anything done. They NEVER answer the phone so forget calling to ask any questions about paperwork or what you need to bring in for anything. They claim the line is ALWAYS too busy for them to even answer because of high call volume, it's been like this for YEARS! Short handed on workers, lines take FOREVER. WORST DMV ON EARTH! Wish I could give a negative rating.
terrible waiting time and only three to five people working some slow and some very good they need more people when the number of people in the line for service is about 100 and when the number waited on when i entered was 28 at noon and it was after two oclock when i finally got waited on just to get a renewal of dl and only about 10 people were there to get license renewed all other had other problems and it took an average of 30 to 40 minutes for each of these and some of them had to return to finish up there needs to be a person doing dl renewals and someone to stay at the photo desk doing all the things necessary for the workers doing the desk services as it was a person was handled by the same person from start to finish and they were up and down and talking to other persons who had their own service person to deal with it is a terrible run office in Alexandria La
