This has been a 3-year journey for me. Had I contacted Marie Lowery initially this situation would have been handled appropriately from the beginning. I am an independent, self-supportive, plan ahead type (or so I thought) person that does not ask for help easily. But when I started getting sick it became quite a scary situation. A skilled craftsperson by trade and by passion, no longer able to utilize my body to support myself. I kinetic taped, support wrapped, topical rub, injections whatever I could for so many years trying to hide my worsening disability from the boss. He told me I was slowing down so I knew I wasn't hiding my pain very well. I had to stop working. My initial application to disability took a year to be denied. Then the second denial came, and I called Marie. The 3rd denial came, and I was so scared. How am I going to feed myself and dogs, pay bills, etc. I can't even do the simplest of repairs anymore. Before I stopped working, I had one year of safety net as I had no idea it could take this long. Being a female in the trades is very confusing for the administration that is responsible for deciding what "disabled" consists of. They really have no understanding of the true workings of the trades. When Marie guided me in collecting the proper info and asking the right questions it was perfect. She understands the SSDI system, and she is very professional but very personable. She called me herself for the first communication we had. I was so surprised that she would take the time to do that. She never makes you feel like she's too busy to listen. From that point on she personally called me to make sure I'm okay and that I'm understanding what is needed of me. I tend to ramble, and she helped me organize my thoughts as well as get my many physicians cooperation in written documentation. It's disappointing that a person can be a patient of the same medical group for 12 or more years and have to fight tooth and nail to get a simple opinion letter. No one wants to be responsible. When Marie gets involved, it gets done! Sarah W is also a wonderful attorney and very down to earth. I am so thankful for these people! I know that they care about people more than they care about the dollar because the fees that a regular attorney collects are on a whole different level. Sarah and Marie spent so much time reading my rambling, whining emails I was afraid I'd need to pay counseling fees :).
