I cannot begin to express how thankful I am for the exemplary care, empathy and heroism that vet nurse Mary Beth Boland provided both me and my 8-year-old Golden Retriever, Olive. While I was out of the country & my partner was working an overnight shift in CCU, I caught my dogs on my pet camera destroy a bottle of NSAIDs (carprofen/rimadyl) at my home in Brooklyn NY. As an ER vet myself, I panicked, aware of the time-sensitive nature to pursue immediate treatment. I struggled for several hours to not only find a specialty hospital late at night on Thanksgiving that could provide therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) to both my naughty dogs, but also a means of facilitating transportation of my dogs there. With having had the pleasure of working with Mary Beth in the past, having personally attended PennVet for my clinical year of vet school and having referred numerous patients to PennVet myself from my ER clinic in NYC, I reached out to Mary Beth around midnight to see if she was working and/or aware of PennVet’s capability to provide TPE to one of my dogs (understandably due to the the critical nature of promptly pursing therapy, equipment & staffing, I needed to send my dogs to different facilities - the other went to Red Bank Vet Specialists, the nearest facility to Brooklyn NY capable of performing TPE overnight). I was incredibly relieved to promptly hear back from Mary Beth, learning she was in fact working, and on-call for extracorporeal therapy overnight - to which WOULD be able to be able to provide TPE to my dog. She reached out & further connected me to the on-call criticalist, Dr. Vince Thawley, who aided in my decision to move forward with such. Aware of my challenges facilitating transportation for my dogs to different facilities (again, as I was out of the country & my partner was unable to leave work), Mary Beth promptly offered to drive to Central Jersey following her shift, to pick Olive up from a friend of mine that met her part way in Red Bank. Mary Beth drove nearly 3 hours in the middle of the night to help my dog get the care she needed at PennVet, as quickly as possible. Both her and Dr. Thawley took incredible care of Olive and kept me in the loop with everything. I incredibly appreciated the frequent updates and photos. Mary Beth willingly ended up working near 24 hours that day to help my dog - Such an incredible act of kindness, one to which I will never forget. The level of care, expertise & kindness that I have personally experienced as a pet owner at PennVet, and furthermore, observed firsthand as a student myself years ago goes unmatched. I would not hesitate to bring my dogs back here in a second (though here’s hoping they stay out of trouble/free of illnesses!). I have no doubts in PennVet’s ability to provide exceptional care for my pets. Please extend my utmost appreciation to Mary Beth Boland and Dr. Thawley for the prompt and immaculate care of my Olive. As well, the numerous clinicians, nurses, assistants & vet students (of name mention – Dr. Han, Dr. Charles & Lori) that cared for Olive in both the ER & ICU departments. I can’t thank you enough. **Olive & Murphy are both doing great since having been discharged

Best Animal Hospital in the Central South New Jersey Philadelphia area. Extremely knowledgeable, thorough with examinations & always there for you & your pet very compassionate. More expensive than a regular vet but you pay for the for all of the things listed above. The absolute best definitely worth $$!

I brought my kitty Sage here after I had woken up to her cornea being perforated. I had initially brought her into the emergency vet that I work at for initial examination and pain medications while we tried to get in contact with an ophthalmologist. After calling several hospitals who unfortunately didn’t have an ophthalmologist available for several days, Penn Vet was able to get her in same day with an on call specialist. When I first arrived, she was triaged right away by a really nice nurse and seen by a great ER doctor. Sage is also currently undergoing pretty extensive treatment for a concurrent immune mediate condition and is on immunosuppressive medications and chemotherapy. When I brought up my concerns for how she would do as a surgical candidate, the ER doctor had reassured me that she would do just fine and if anything happened she would be in good hands. When I spoke to Dr. Ross shortly after, she was able to give me a diagnosis and let me know that her condition was a rare side effect from the steroid therapy she’s on for her other condition. Not only was Dr. Ross able to perform a much more minimally invasive procedure than anticipated, but she had made time to do it the same night so I could take her home the next morning. Thank you to everyone who took care of my little lady, and she sincerely apologizes for her spicy attitude!

The doctors and staff at this hospital are incredible. Everyone we came into contact with was so sweet and compassionate and took time to answer all our questions. I know our sweet puppy was so cared for here and we are grateful for everything they did for us and her. Dr Harvey in particular was exceptional and I respect her and what she does so much. I’m sure it’s mentally and emotionally taxing to balance delivering reality with gentleness and kindness in the way that she does everyday and I just can’t thank her enough. Thank you to everyone we came in contact with here ????

Highly recommend Penn for specialty and the ER. I brought my cat Sylvester here for internal medicine and cardio, and unfortunately his heart failure progressed quickly and I made the decision to euthanize in the ER when his condition worsened later on. All of the students, doctors, and folks at the front desk were so helpful and compassionate. The ER doctor who handled Sylvester’s updates and euthanasia was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and compassionate. We were able to leave his body with Penn to transfer for Private cremation, and their billing dept followed up two days later on the invoice and ashes. It was a very difficult day but I’m grateful to the Penn team for how they handled this
