Attorney Benjamin Van Severen was very professional, timely and answered all of our questions. Not only did he keep us in the loop during this long process, he was transparent and set appropriate expectations. Hired Meyer Van Severen for a criminal case, which took several years to come to fruition (not the lawfirm's fault). Along the way the DA's office made it very clear how they would prosecute me. When it came time to present final statements to the judge my attorney refused to present evidence that was crucial for the judge to see/hear, as he felt it would hurt my case. I had requested numerous times this crucial evidence be presented to provide key context to the judge. At sentencing the judge specifically mentioned he had nothing from my lawyer to rebut the DA's stance - i.e. the evidence I specifically requested to be presented. As such, I received a sentence including some condition time. Once in custody, and with COVID running rampant through the HOC, my attorney bluntly stated to family 'there was nothing that could be done' to help me. I took it upon myself to write my judge and request "good time" credit, which takes time off a sentence. In short, the judge granted my request and took a substantial amount of time off my sentence. So much for the notion nothing could be done... In closing, while in custody I met Matthew Meyer - the Meyer and Meyer Van Severen. Do I need to say more than one of the namesakes of the firm is presently in custody? Do yourself or your loved one a favor and hire a more professional, organized, detail oriented and effective defense firm/attorney.
