293 days ago I was issued a traffic ticket. Maria Pense, Esq., was assigned as my “conflict attorney.” To my understanding, the people accusing me have been represented by all the public defenders in Carson City, so the city pays a “third party” lawyer essentially. Maria Pense was late to my first court hearing because she had a migraine. 6 days before my bench trial was the first day Maria Pense sat me down in her office. Maria Pense proceeds to accuse me of not trusting her. While I tried to explain why, she interrupts me and has a meltdown. All I said before she started melting down was, “You get paid quarterly.” Instead of letting me explain how, if I was paid quarterly, I would want to continue the proceedings as long as I could; Maria Pense interrupts me and explains she is in fact paid monthly whether she has 0, or 1000 clients. I showed up to my bench trial on Monday only to find Maria had let the court know she was done with me. Yet she failed to let me know I didn’t need to come to court that day. The building is a converted residential unit. The secretary works in the kitchen and Maria Pense works in the north-parlor room off the front door.

I could tell right away that she was actually thinking about my case and not just trying to herd me into an unfair plea agreement like most attorneys have. The outcome to my case was almost unbelievably better than I would have predicted. Maria was the first attorney I've ever had who really seemed to be willing to fight for my freedom, my rights and myself. She's sharp, she's thoughtful, and she listens. Whatever the outcome, I'm happy I hired Maria Pence.

Maria Pence is the best! The best way I can describe her is by saying that she is a true defense attorney at heart…someone who really cares about her clients. She excels in her work. She fights hard to make sure that either a judge or the prosecutor will understand the surrounding circumstances that led to an offense being committed allowing the judge and the prosecutor to see beyond the crime and see the person, the human being! Some offenses can't be completely exonerated but you can count on Maria to fight hard to minimize the punishment. I can't say enough good things about her and her professionalism! I highly recommend her to everyone!
