Mr. Godwin and his staff were professional and courteous, assisting us with two adoptions. They provided not only excellent legal assistance, but they also provided the emotional support families need when engaging in the adoption process. We are thankful for their guidance and care. They were available to answer our questions and ease our concerns. Most importantly, they were excited about our adoptions and celebrated with us as family members and friends would. How touching it was to watch Mr. Godwin interact with our 2 year old and 3 month old as we awaited our finalization hearing. He held them both, playing peek-a-boo and reading aloud to them from a children's Bible he gave to them. What a beautiful way to complete our adoption process. It is obvious that Mr. Godwin and his staff have chosen to assist adoptive families because it is calling.

After a long battle of trying to have biological children, my wife Amy & I came to the conclusion that adoption was our path to a family. nWe found Ray Godwin after picking up "The Complete Adoption Book" from a nearby bookstore. We were lost & didn't really know where to begin. The book helped tremendously. Shortly after, we had a preliminary phone conference with a large national adoption firm. However, we quickly figured out we didn't want to be a "name & number", but that a more personal, hands-on experience would be better for us. I then did a google search of South Carolina adoption attorneys & a familiar name popped up...one of the authors of the book himself, Ray Godwin. We set up a meeting with Ray at his office & were immediately comfortable, at ease & eager to move forward with the process. We were in!nRay & his entire staff were helpful, understanding, compassionate, professional & a true pleasure to deal with throughout our journey. We adopted our first child, a baby girl in 2013. We had such a great experience with Ray, we adopted a baby boy with his help in 2015. nThough the two adoptions had their differences, as most do we have learned, the thing that was consistent throughout both processes was knowing we had Mr. Godwin & his team to answer every question & concern along the way. We can't say enough great things about Ray & would recommend him to anyone looking for an experienced, committed, involved & caring attorney to help them through the adoption process. We have the happy & complete family we always hoped for & we have Ray Godwin & his staff to thank for it.

We started our adoption journey in 2010. We had to pay a consultation fee and Mr. Godwin spent less than 10 minutes with us. Despite this we signed up anyway. Mistake. In the few months we were with them, we were asked to change our profile book in a way that was not consistent with who we are. We refused because we felt this was not honest for expecting mothers. We were also being pressured to accept possible matches that would be way over our budget. We were being smart in not wanting to over extend ourselves financially. After several situations being turned down, they basically told us we would never be able to adopt unless we increased our budget to a rediculous amount. We moved on to somewhere else shortly after even though we lost a fair amount of money, but we were much happier with our new attorney and adopted the perfect child in January 2012.

There is no way I can say enough about the quality of service we received from Ray and his staff! They were there for us every step of our adoption journeys. With our first son, we had already been matched, and Ray and his staff helped us through the nerve wracking time at the hospital and our waiting time before we could take our baby home, and helped us through the finalization. They even talked us through what steps to take when applying for his SS card ! Then, 10 months later, Ray helped us bring home our son's baby brother! His staff were very supportive of our son's birth mother, and the attorney they helped to retain for her was WONDERFUL! We've heard so many sad stories about what happens when placements fall through, but let me assure you that no matter what happens, you will have support, information, and the most kindhearted man to represent you. He truly has a love of adoption, and helping create families. We will be forever grateful for his help and guidance through one of the most emotionally challenging times of our lives, and for the part he played in creating our forever family.
