Reviews

I wish zero stars was an option. I’ve never left a bad review on anything because I can usually find the silver lining , but felt the need to do so to save someone else the trouble I’ve dealt with. Mistake #1: I hired Candice Shockley to assist me in my divorce. Mistake #2 After paying the retainer and asking repeatedly for a summary of my charges (that I NEVER received) she had the audacity to bill me for over $5,000 over the retainer fee of $2,500 and we never even went to trial. My divorce only took 4 months and for roughly 6 weeks of those 4 months Shockley was “out of the office”. I can’t stress enough how important it is to do your research when hiring an attorney! Hopefully this review will save the people of Shelby and Jefferson County a lot of time, money, and heartache. I was told, after the fact, that Margaret Casey was the divorce attorney that you want… or even Johnathan Green out of Jefferson Co. is worth a shot (my ex husband’s attorney (( He is extremely expensive though!)) Either way, good people, RESEARCH! Now I need another attorney to take care of this mess of a “bill”. Lesson learned!!
Ms Shockley took my money and didn’t do anything she showed up for court unprepared. Completely unprofessional, lack of communication and a waste of time and money. Do NOT waste your time or money. I wish they didn’t use stars for a review. She doesn’t deserve one.
Great law office. Ms. Shockley and her office, did a great job helping make my will and other papers.
We hired Anna Sparks back in April 2021 in a child custody/child support matter. Paid her $1,500.00 up front. She never showed up for meetings, or court hearings. Always at “other” court hearings or more important cases. After the last meeting she stood us up at, we decided to part ways. Mrs. Sparks was also moving to Atl and will spend us a final bill ???????? For what?? She hasn’t did anything for us. We need to send her a bill for our time and our services. She will not be an attorney long that’s for sure! Just know if there is anyone else out there you can file a formal complaint with the Alabama State Bar (alabama.org), American Bar (americanbar.org) and just because she is moving to Atlanta doesn’t mean you can’t make a complaint and warn potential victims there as well, (atlantabar.org) We’ll probably never see our money again and in my book she is a thief!!
Candace Shockley just took my money. I paid her a $2500 retainer fee and the cost of her poor services added up quickly. The one thing that added up was the phone calls. Every phone call she made for me, she charged me $300. By the way I don't know what those phone calls were for. I was awarded custody of the house I shared with my husband. He broke into the house. I had a security camera that showed him damaging the front door and breaking a window behind the house. The police was called and he encouraged to file a restraining order based on my husban's erratic behavior. The officer felt I was in danger. He told me that if my husband came back I should run to his house which was right down the street from me. I told Shockley about this. I texted her those photos and videos from the security camera. I told her that the officer advised me to file a restraining order. She advised me not to do it because it would delay the divorce. We got to court and she couldn' t find the photos and videos I sent her assistant. She never presented that evidence in court so that the judge could warn him to stay away. She also tried to get me to sign an agreement saying that after 6 months, I would take over the house payment, which she knew I couldn't afford and I wouldn't qualify for a mortgage loan because I had just been employed and didn't have the funds to do it anyway. Thank God I had a friend who worked for a mortgage company who I called. He told me don't sign that agreement. She was impatient. She screamed at me during a phone call I made to her. When the divorce was final I never received anything in the mail to say so. My husband and I couldn't agree on alimony and so we left it in the judge's hands. A month later I thought I was still married. I had to call her office and her assistant told me that I was finally divorced. The assistant sent me the divorce settlement via email. My warning to anyone considering using her is don't. She will send you a bill for multiple $300 phone calls that she'll say she made on your behalf, give you bad advice and will conveniently forget to bring documents to court.
