Debbie Shpigler helped our Austrian son-in-law receive a “green card.” In fact, we think it very likely that he would have been denied without Debbie’s assistance. He and our daughter decided in 2016 that they would like to move, with their two children, to the United States. She had remained a US citizen whilst living in Austria. Both children have US passports. They chose to pursue the green card process on their own, without legal assistance. They submitted the initial application, paid the required fees, waited, and communicated with us about what would be required next if the US immigration authorities accepted the application. When we realized that our “take” on the process was different from theirs, we thought it best to contact an attorney in metro-Atlanta who specialized in immigration. Debbie herself answered when we telephoned. We requested a one-hour appointment and eventually a letter to our daughter and son-in-law. She scheduled to meet on a day when we would be in metro-Atlanta on other business. She proposed a very reasonable fee. When we met, Debbie clarified the financial and domiciliary requirements for sponsorship, reviewed our eligibility for joint-sponsorship (if required), and provided an overview of the sequential steps that remained if their initial application was approved. Several days later, Debbie sent our daughter and son-in-law a detailed letter (and a copy for us) containing a step-by-step “road map,” with URL links to official web sites, for the successive steps they would have to take. This letter is a marvel of clarity, succinctness, and unambiguous advice. We received notification from our daughter in Austria several weeks ago that her husband had received final approval. She wrote that Debbie’s intervention was critical. They had read and re-read her letter many times during the intervening months. It had saved them from taking the wrong turn, so to speak, or making bad decisions, on a number of occasions.
