Thomas M. Van Camp, PLLC

Several weeks ago I called to make an appointment for my mom. She is 82, and her husband abandoned her. We were to meet with him this past week on February 21st. I drove 660 miles to be here for the appointment. We were walking out the door on Tuesday morning, and his paralegal called to say that he was in court and he would not be able to keep his appointment. I want to add that we had a very important court appearance scheduled for February the 27th, which the paralegal told me that he would do a continuance. Anyway, she rescheduled our appointment for Thursday the 23rd. We arrived at their Rockingham office only to be told that Mr. Van Camp would not be there. His paralegal sat with us to do the consult. She told us that she could not give us a retainer amount, but would have to speak with Mr. Van Camp. I asked her if this was going to negate our being able to get the continuance and she told me it would not. We spoke yesterday on the phone a little past 11:00. Still no communication with the attorney. Finally a little after 2:00 I sent her a txt reminding her of the “time crunch”. She called me and said, “Oh, I’m sorry! I should have already called you! Your retainer amount will be $7500.00.” To be honest, I could not believe this. We are not contesting the divorce. We are in agreement with leaving the house. We needed representation on Monday, and we had a couple of small issues that we needed to be addressed, and now we were completely screwed. The paralegal told us that it could be $5000.00 or it could go as high as $7500. It could also be less than $5,000.00. They tried to stick us with the worst possible scenario! Our representation did not warrant that type of fee. I just want to say two things: 1. It does not look good at all for an attorney not to show up… twice. 2. I would not recommend this office/attorney ever! Through an act of God - and I truly believe it is a miracle! - we are driving over to meet with an attorney on Saturday morning. My father was a minister and my mom was part of that ministry. They were married for almost 56 years and she remarried the man who is causing all of this grief. Look elsewhere for an attorney that keeps his word, arrives at an appointment and doesn’t try to bankrupt you when you are 82 years old and living on Social Security.

I used Mr. Van Camp and his team to file for divorce. He was very personable on my first visit. Valerie is a star in this practice. Started off as a great attorney but once all the major details on my case was finalized he didn’t seem to have any interest in the minor details that came to follow. We both verbally agree to hold moving forward with my case until further information was figured out, then I received a letter from him stating he was no longer my attorney. No explanation at all. He will not return any phone calls or email. During the time of service as my attorney he wasn’t timely on responding to my emails or phone calls.

I would give negative stars if possible. Mr. Van Camp is a crook and a liar. I would not recommend him for anything. He is rude and arrogant and at the end of the day all he cares about is money. The whole firm is a joke! Since I am unable to respond to your response, I'll respond here. I am not on your client list, but you know exactly who I am. I would NEVER be one of your clients because after going through the process of you representing my fiancé, you are a liar, a manipulator, you are unorganized and quite frankly, you are lazy!! I've spoken to other attorney's about you and the way you handled his case and they all said you didn't do your job properly as well. I feel sorry for anyone that trusts you!!!
