We have had successful bookings with Airbnb in the past. But a few recent experiences have been very painful. We booked a property in Fort Bragg CA. Once we reached the property, we couldn't find the key in lock box as instructed. We contacted Airbnb and they cancelled the reservation saying they were not able to reach the host either, and gave us $20 to find another reservation late in the night on our own. We had to knock multiple doors and spend more than double the price since it was absolute last minute. Airbnb did not agree with either reimbursing the hotel reservation or paying out the difference amount. They had not helped set up another accommodation as well. The next day we came to know that the host had extended the reservation of the previous tenant. Though it's an Airbnb administrative issue, they did not own it up. We were penalized with last minute hassles and a heavy expense. The support has been pathetic with the agents closing the tickets forcibly without proper resolution. Avoid booking through Airbnb, not reliable & ethical anymore.

HORRIBLE, unethical, seemingly ILLEGAL treatment of respectable users of the platform. After YEARS of using Airbnb as a respectable guest with zero complaints from hosts, my account was suddenly banned due to this explanation: "We found that your account was closely associated with a person who isn’t allowed to use Airbnb." What?! What on earth are you talking about? Who on earth are you talking about? The only other person I travel with is my husband whose account is still alive, well and active. Who is this mysterious person that is "closely associated" with me and has led me, without any proof or explanation, to being suddenly banned from the platform? I appealed this decision, and a few min later they just responded saying that their decision is final and they will uphold the ban. It's like discrimination based on some unproven "connection" to some random unidentified person. Why doesn't YEARS of my own right conduct / track record have any weight? I used to respect Airbnb but now I truly do not. WORST BUSINESS EVER. I don't even think this is legal so I am looking into ways to confront them on this.

Airbnb needs to send out more surveys to guests and do more quality checks on the Ambassadors. There are a lot of Ambassadors doing malicious things. They won't put in notes for the call. They don't always take action to help. Some will leave you stranded for hours with no where to go. They will take days on a resolution. There newest thing is if you complain about them, they will put a PARTY BLOCK on your account so you can't book anymore and some will force you to be stuck with them as a Ambassador and make it so you can't call back and speak to someone else. They never want to transfer you to a manager. I used to love Airbnb but now it's very difficult to use the app because of the all of the issues. They need more managers, secret shoppers, surveys and quality checks.

Airbnb is a scam! Be aware of your charges. For your mental sanity, and protection don’t book any long stays with them. My family members who are trying to skip a dangerous situation and need a long stay went under lots of stress and emotional abuse because of these people. So many unprofessional people work at their place. My bank is already involved with this issue, I hope this will be resolved, I just want to warm others who really need to find shelter through these people, please be cautious they will over charge you then make you to speak with 40 people, yes that’s right 40 people, then each of them will ask you to call back pretend ti understand the situation while they don’t, and never call you back. Each time I tried to extend my family’s stay with them, they added additional nightly rate to the entire stay from the beginning, the ones I already paid them. I booked an apartment for $40.58 a night from February 4 to March 4 of 2024 and paid the total amount of $1,301.83. I tried adding another 31 nights, the new rate was $50.58 per night, this time I was charged $2,086.96. After digging and doing a simple math, I found out that the increase nightly rate for second month was applied to 61 nights not the 29 nights. I tried explaining this simple math to each of their “ambassadors”, unfortunately non of them seem to have elementary school education to understand this fact. The interesting part was when I tried securing my family’s stay for another month, this time they said the entire stay will be $17.99 a night, total if $535.76. I was shocked so was my host. After reaching out to them many time, my host was told that I will be charged $3,325.54 for one month stay. Please do yourself and your loved ones a huge favor and stay away from them.

What happened to my family made me see clearly who Airbnb true serves. You and I (the guests) are definitely NOT Airbnb’s customers: We arrived at an Airbnb in Santa Barbara and were surprised to find that it was located right next to an ACTIVE train track, which was not mentioned anywhere in the description. Trains would pass by as early as 6:30 am and as late as 11 pm during our stay, causing significant noise disturbances throughout the unit. In fact, the noise was so disruptive that I had to put my child in a CLOSET to sleep. Despite of host's blatant violation of Airbnb's policy and us sharing videos documenting the issue, Airbnb insisted that we pay over $1000 for our stay. This experience has left me deeply disappointed as I had placed unwarranted trust in Airbnb. This situation taught me that Airbnb appears to prioritize the interests of hosts, who are effectively their TRUE customers. I don’t know why I didn’t see it before, but Airbnb look out for their hosts because they are their PROFT CENTERS. Unfortunately for you and I, the everyday consumer, there is little incentive for Airbnb to prioritize the well-being of the guests.
