Herbert W Laine PC

Mr. Laine was originally hired to assist me in a custody case. We paid a retainer and was told that if we decided not to use his services, he would credit back the amount minus a one hour fee. I decided to let him go since my ex and I came to an agreement and the case would not get continued. Well, it has been over 2 months now and a refund has yet to be provided!! Horrible way to do business!

Divorce procedures. Mr. Laine would not return calls and many times I had to go to his office personally just to get something done. From 3 orders that were supposed to be submitted to the court he only did 2 and since I moved out of state he would not return calls to get the third one done.

In my opinion Herbert W. Laine is the Worst lawyer in Virginia. He told us that the Isle of Wight court house was named after his family. Said his name ment something there. What a joke of a lawyer. He didn't even know what case he was representing. He had to keep asking our names. My advice is to stay away from this lawyer.

While working with this lawyer I was routinely forced to leave messages because nobody answered the phone. I would receive a return call only a portion of the time. I would provide information to the office about my case and often they'd either forgotten or misplaced what I had provided and asked for it again. In coordinating my court date I explained when I could not attend, and they scheduled me for a time I told them I could not be there! I received a call from their office one morning, asking where I was, that Mr. Laine was at the courthouse, on the day I specifically told them I could not be present. They provided advice for managing my case that strung the process out so long that some time sensitive information was no longer available to us. They suggested a course of action for me and then after beginning it abruptly informed me that they had decided to no longer represent my case. At this point it became financially unwise to continue the case, and with much less information available to me due to the way the process was dragging on, going elsewhere for assistance was not a promising option. The gaffes made by this law office hindered me from getting compensation from the party that had wronged me.

I worked with Herbert Laine for my divorce and he made everything a simple and easy process for me. The only difficulty I had was trying to contact him. However, he made a point to return my phone call in a timely matter. I highly recommend Herbert Laine as a lawyer.
