Didn't have any backbone to represent me. I hired him after I fired my Public defender. Which my public defender got me a better deal then he did. He told the prosecutor numerous times during my plea he didn't care and it didn't matter to him. I had to get myself a better deal directly with the prosecutor. Im the type that learns the hard way. Everyone told me not to go with him, but I liked he was cheap and I was a little desperate. He was a waste of money and I wish I would of listened to the several people that had bad things to say about how he represented them. He's more interested in being everyone's friend in the court house then being your attorney

I retained Kelton back in 2019 for $1000.00 for a simple child custody/child support case. It Should of only taken 2 months, like it did the first time around when I didn’t have an attorney. He had to redo the paperwork because he filled it out wrong and blamed it on myself for giving him the wrong information, which came strictly from the child support agency, he also then blamed it on the agency. Then had the case closed with the wrong paperwork.Two years later I’m not any further along than I was then. It was just a simple child support case where both parties agreed to everything. Every time I would call him he either wouldn’t answer, and I couldn’t leave a message because it was full, not that he would call back, or he said call me back at the end of the week and I’ll find out, never would answer. Called again a few times and when he would answer he would blame it on the other attorney which he would never contact! This went on for two years. So now I am down $1000 and have to find a new attorney for a very simple case. He then told me to come pick up my file and hung up on the last call. I had my husband go pick it up because he was nasty on the phone and didn’t feel safe going by myself, he didn’t have it ready and called the cops on my husband. When the cops got there they were able to get the file for me. Thank you to the officer who responded. Please ask around before hiring an attorney online. If you are able to ask for references please do! Im not sure if that is possible.

Once you give him your money, you have to call a million times to talk to him.

Awful attorney! I hired him for my husband's criminal violation car and both his custody cases. The first custody case, Kelton never showed up to court and my husband lost because he was in jail and no one showed up to represent him in his absence. He did win the second custody case only because the other party didn't have representation and didn't know how to respond (I also made sure significant info was provided to prove she was unfit). He never did ant research or gave any helpful advice on how to win. I had to research everything and give him the information. He was no carefree and kept saying "all we can do is try" without putting any real effort into any of the cases. My husband was in jail awaiting trial and the day of his bond hearing the judge told Kelvin to schedule the next hearing. The scheduler was busy so Kelton said he would call her later that day to schedule, which he didn't do. I called him multiple times to see if court has been scheduled over the next couple of weeks and he just kept saying no. He was waiting for them to contact him. Finally, he submits a motion to release him and tells me he again has to wait for them to contact him. Almost a month later, after many more calls and watching the docket like a hawk, I call the court house and they told me they left multiple messages to schedule and he never contacted them back. I had to keep calling Kelton and the court house to make sure they finally spoke and scheduled court. Three weeks later, the day before he was finally suppose to go to court, Kelton called me and said it was rescheduled. When I asked why, he said he didn't know. I called the court house to get info and they said they sent him documents weeks prior to notify him in attempts to get a new date that worked with my attorneys schedule. My husband was suppose to go to court in April, at the latest, but had to wait July 17th because of the negligence of Kelton Smith. He was scheduled to be released May 9th but had to stay in jail until he went to court on July 17th. I also found out that the motion he submitted was not appropriate for the type of case my husband had and would not have been accepted by the judge regardless of the circumstances. He even submitted the motion to two different courthouses when he only had an open case at one and charged me for both. I fired him and asked for a detailed invoice and refund and he only gave me back $200 and charged me for 3 motions that he submitted for cars that were already resolved and should not have motions submitted to. When my husband want to his office to discuss the discrepancies in the refund, he told my husband to leave before he called the cops and told him to get another attorney because contacting him again. Awful human being!!!!!
