Reviews

I really didn’t want to leave this review but I hope it is helpful to someone in the future. Against my sisters recommendation [who hired Summer for a custody case several years ago], I went into a consultation with Summer Emmert. At first meeting, Summer was knowledgeable and had answers to all my questions. I had consulted with several lawyers before choosing her, and I based my decision on her confidence, attention to detail, willingness to offer solutions, and response time. Things changed as soon as she got my retainer. We would go 2, sometimes 3 weeks without hearing from her in a case she said would likely take a month or two [it took 5 months]. I tried to be patient and only call every other week for updates. I was always the one to call asking for updates, updates were never volunteered to me. It was very clear that she either didn’t have time for my case, or just didn’t think it was very important. At one point, they admitted to not submitting the necessary paperwork for several weeks. As things unfolded and I consulted with other lawyers, I learned that many of her answers were not accurate, and she didn’t seem to really know protocol for a case like mine. Questions were left unanswered, or answered incorrectly altogether, and she showed no interest in doing research to find the correct answers. More often than not, it felt like she was the defendants lawyer. It didn’t feel like she was on “my side,” she kept encouraging me to make a deal that I explicitly told her I had no interest in making, she called the defendant without telling me about it, and appeared to just want to take the easiest route for her. Finally, towards the end, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the lack of communication, which she responded with “I’m very busy, I have more important cases, if you want to find another lawyer you can” … two weeks before our hearing. She was very rude, condescending, and unhelpful. I never heard from her by phone or email again. She never called prior to our hearing to prep me. She never told me that she would be asking questions or what to expect. Total radio silence. At the hearing, the judge only had two questions for me which were pretty cut and dry. Summer then said she had “evidence” for the case, and proceeded to first walk me through mundane questions [she asked me to spell my name, spell out my address, etc] and then interrogated me with difficult questions I was not in any way prepared to answer on the spot. Had my ex not been compliant, there is no doubt in my mind I would have lost this case with Summer as my attorney. If my case had gone to trial, I was prepared to replace her.
Summer Emmert was a beacon of hope to our family in a child custody case. Our options appeared limited and the likelihood of a satisfactory resolution seemed impossible. Mrs Emmert was the Louisville Slugger in court and knocked it out of the park. She was passionate about our case. We are eternally grateful for her service and recommend without reservation.
If I could give negative stars I would. She was belittling & condescending to me & my family & really wanted us to know that she sees herself as a big time lawyer. She really held it over our heads that she knew more than us and we were complete idiots for not understanding and having to come to her for clarification. Most of what she told us was incorrect anyways. A total waste of our time and money. Will not go back under any circumstance & will not reccomend. You earned this bad review.
Summer is extremely knowledgeable. She was extremely helpful in my case it was very easy to contact her with any concerns and questions. The entire process was effortless with her. I had no clue where to start when I came to her and at the end of it, I am so happy I had her on my side.
Summer is an amazing attorney. I am so thankful to have found her. She is companionate, caring, realistic, and will fight for you when you can't fight yourself!
