Having had to deal with a FL Workers' Comp audit last year by myself, I knew when I was contacted by the State of FL for a 3 year Sales Tax Audit, I would need help. FL DOR are sharks. You are guilty until proven innocent. They ask for your entire books (which they don't need), they will ask you questions over the phone (which you don't have to answer), visit your business (or home!) and can wreak havoc if you don't have representation...DOR does this everyday & you don't necessarily know your rights or how to fight back. MS&D was one of the first places I called. I chose them due to their extensive experience and I felt like they cared about my company. I made the right choice! They were always prompt, helped me find out that I was paying taxes on my electric (which I was able to get a 3 year credit for) and took the direct stress off me. I had to provide a full years worth of receipts (sales & purchases) as we are seasonal...we're talking hundreds of documents, but it could have been more had I not had DS&M! DOR wants to see that you are not only paying sales tax you collect from your customers, but that you are paying sales tax on items that you purchase...*every* purchase (gas, supplies, etc). We had a site inspection, and since we hired MS&D, the DOR could only look around - not open drawers or get into our computers like they do if you are not represented. Although my original tax bill was over $20K (after the first round of receipts), I ended up with a $0 liability. Now, it cost me $ for MS&D, but I would rather pay them a fraction of the original liability than possibly put myself out of business or not making payroll because of the DOR! Bottom line? Don't take on the State by yourself - even if you know what you're doing...and DS&M are the people to make it happen. Thanks, James!

After an Audit by the Florida Department of Revenue, it was determined that our company owed in excess of fifty thousand dollars. If I had retained the services of James Sutton at the beginning of the audit I am confident that it would have been at least half of that amount. Unfortunately, I waited until the collection process began to retain their services. At that point it was too late to change their findings but Mr. Sutton was instrumental in the resolution of this experience in dealing with the Department of Revenue.
