About Gary
Sworn in as a member of the Michigan Bar in 1979 Gary served as Ionia County Assistant Prosecutor until his election in 1984. As a two term Prosecutor he successfully tried over a hundred criminal cases while also representing the county as civil counsel. He was elected President of the Prosecuting Attorney's Association of Michigan and served as a criminal law advisor to two Michigan Governors.
Gary is an expert in the sentencing and corrections process, having been appointed and serving as Chairperson of the Michigan Parole Board. He has lectured to a plethora of audiences including attorney groups and the Michigan Judicial Institute. As an instructor he has conducted seminar's on trial procedure, criminal strategies, defenses and ethics.
Gary has served as Chairperson for the Criminal Law Section of the Michigan State Bar, thwarting attempts eliminate preliminary hearings in felony cases and working towards uniformity in criminal discovery.
First and foremost Gary is a trial attorney with remarkable success. Whether it be civil or criminal trials his preparation and advocacy skills have resulted in successful verdicts in capital cases including Homicide and Criminal Sexual Conduct.
A Graduate of Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Central, the University of Michigan and Detroit College of Law, Gary grew up in rural Kalamazoo County where he now makes his home with wife, Gail, and Bailey, their golden retriever.
