Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I represented a 60 year old Hispanic Restaurant Manager who was involved in a head-oncollision. As a consequence he fractured his hip. However, he continued to experiencepain and discomfort after his hip healed. His Orthopedic Surgeon had discharged himfrom his care and indicated that he would need no further treatment. However, based onthe nature and extent of his complaints, I suspected that he would be a candidate for a hipreplacement in the very near future. I referred him to the best hip surgeon in San DiegoCounty. That doctor agreed that my client would, in fact, require a bilateral hipreplacement as a consequence of his injuries from this incident. As a result, I was able toobtain a settlement in the amount of $750,000.
How did you build a successful practice?
I have been able to listen to my clients' physical complaints. I understand when there areindications of a more serious underlying etiology that's been either aggravated or inflicteddue to the trauma sustained. As a consequence, I have been able to make sure that myclients have received the referrals to the appropriate medical specialists and treatment inorder to have an accurate prognosis. This enables my clients to receive full compensationfor their injuries.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for an attorney who cares about them, who listens to what they say inorder to be able to fully present all of the elements of their case to either the insurancecompany or a jury. The AV Rating I have attained is also a very important designation. Itis based upon the ratings and input from opposing counsel and judges who have had anopportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the attorney who has been evaluated. The AVRating is the top rating available. I am proud to have been included as a Super Lawyer formost of my career.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
It is critical that the attorney who is presenting your case for trial to understand thecharacteristics and dynamics of the community. It enables the lawyer to evaluate theappropriateness of those individuals being selected to sit as a juror in a particular case. Itis also important for your attorney to know the availability of certain medical specialists, who would be available to act as a medical expert especially since many of the Kaiserphysicians refuse to do so. Therefore, the knowledge and experience with the localmedical community is one of the most important pieces of information that a personalinjury attorney can have in San Diego.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I provide an evaluation of the individual's case and whether or not they actually need anattorney based upon the severity of their injuries and the nature of their claim.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
General information regarding how the client was injured and the treatment that theyhave received to date as a consequence of their injuries.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I am willing to fight to make sure that my clients receive appropriate medical care in orderto make the best possible recovery they can. I do not refer clients to chiropractors or othermedical providers who may be ill-equipped or inappropriate to treat the person'scomplaints in order to obtain a long term result. I also have an extremely specializedknowledge regarding etiology of how most personal injuries can occur such as herniateddisc, torn rotator cuffs, internal knee injuries, paraplegia, quadriplegia and brain injuries.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Where I can fight on behalf of my client in order to make sure that they have received fullcompensation for the injuries that they have sustained as a consequence of an individual'snegligence. I don't allow the tactics employed by the Insurance industry utilized to enablethem to avoid their responsibility to pay the full amount that is required under Californialaw.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Spending time with my family, boating, camping, surfing, playing tennis and traveling.
Are you involved in your community?
I am involved in providing pro bono legal work to indigent clients and volunteer work on behalf of various charitable organizations.
