About George
Mr. Hartnett is Chair of the Firm's Executive Committee, its Managing Partner, and a partner in the Business Department. While Mr. Hartnett's background includes substantial experience in financing and work-out related matters, his practice is concentrated primarily in the corporate merger, acquisition and divestiture area, and in providing structural, governance and contractual advice to corporations, limited partnerships and limited liability companies, and their governing bodies and equity holders.
Mr. Hartnett has represented both strategic and financial buyers and sellers of businesses in a wide variety of transactions, including a large number of transactions where he has represented financial buyers or management in highly-leveraged acquisitions involving multiple tiers of debt and equity. In these transactions, he is able to rely on the capabilities of other attorneys in the Firm to provide support in the labor and human resources, intellectual property, tax, pension, environmental and litigation analysis areas, among others, in order to assist his clients in reviewing and analyzing potential targets.
Mr. Hartnett has strong relationships with a number of regional and national investment bankers, who look to him for assistance or guidance in connection with transactions.
Mr. Hartnett received his A.B. from Georgetown University in 1971, and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association. Mr. Hartnett is a current or past member of the Board of Directors of Chestnut Hill College, Central Philadelphia Development Corporation, The Abraxas Foundation and the Corporate Partners of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. In 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, he was selected in a survey of his peers as a Pennsylvania "Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics magazine. Mr. Hartnett has been AV rated by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system.
