About Gerald
Gerald P. Goldsmith is a litigator in the City, State and Federal Courts in New York. He specializes in Admiralty Law and Plaintiff's negligence work and currently serves Of Counsel to the firm of Kahn, Gordon, Timko & Rodriques. He has served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and the Civil Court, Bronx County and has practiced Election Law. In addition, he has served in various Court appointed positions.
He earned his LL.B. at New York Law School in 1958; was admitted to practice in New York State in 1959, before the U.S. Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts in 1963, before Supreme Court of the United States in 1970 and before the U.S. Court of Appeals, 2nd Circuit in 1984.
He is a member of the Bronx County Bar Association, American Associate for Justice (AAJ) and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Goldsmith is deeply involved in community and philanthropic endeavors. He was a founder of the Riverdale YM-YWHA in 1967, has served as pro bono legal counsel and has held several offices on the Board of Trustees including Chairman. He is currently Vice President. He takes great pride in producing all-star jazz concerts for the Y. He also helped found the Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club in the Bronx; served as Bronx County Chair of the Anti-Defamation League and as Co-Chair of ADL's Metropolitan Council.
He was active in The Rotary Club of Chinatown (NY), and served a term as its President. During the 1980's and early 1990's he was Law Chairman and pro bono legal counsel to the Children's Day Treatment Center and School, a facility for learning disabled children. Earlier he was a member of The Grand Street Boys Association, serving as President of the Young Men's Division and as a Group Leader at the University Settlement House in lower Manhattan.
An avid motor-boat enthusiast, he has owned and raced power boats of varying sizes since he was a teenager. Because of his vast knowledge and experience as a boater he is an expert in litigating small boat accidents. In 1959 he co-authored Boatfixit , a how-to book on boat maintenance and repair.
