About Gerald
Dr. Sugarman graduated from George Washington University with a Master's degree in Biochemistry. He received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School, interned at the Los Angeles County Hospital and completed his residency training in Pediatrics and Pediatric neurology (fellowship) at the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. He was the director of admissions at the Pomona State Hospital (Lanterman) for the mentally retarded.
Dr. Sugarman has published over 50 medical articles and 4 books. Four rare syndromes have been named after him. He is certified by the Boards of Pediatrics (FAAP) and also Family Practice (FAAFP). He continues his medical endeavors by writing, reading, attending meetings, evaluating patients and reviewing medical-legal records.
Dr. Sugarman has been an expert in medical-legal cases for over 25 years. He has reviewed cases involving meningitis, shoulder dystocia, brain injured newborns, forceps and vacuum extractor injuries, cerebral palsy, large baby cases with traumatic injuries, vaccine injuries, drug and medication errors, pharmacy prescription errors, allergic reactions to medication, overdose of medication, obstetric injuries, brain tumor cases, neurosurgical negligence, epilepsy (seizure disorders), mental retardation, genetic disorders, missed or delayed treatment of appendicitis, missed diagnosis of breast cancer as well as many others.
Dr. Sugarman graduated law school from Glendale University School of Law and became licensed by the California State Bar in 1978, when he began his practice. He confines his law practice to serious injuries involving newborns, children and adults. He is a member of the American Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) and a member of the Birth Trauma Litigation Group.
