How did you build a successful practice?
Word of mouth and client referrals. If I am able to speak to someone regarding their case, I generally will sign them up as a client. I am very approachable and I return phone calls.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
In worker's compensation a person should look to see how a lawyer conducts his business. My firm does not take a percentage of our client's worker's compensation checks. Most lawyers do. When a lawyer takes a percentage of a client's weekly check, there is no incentive to move the case forward to a resolution.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is important because worker's compensation is doctor driven. The injured worker needs to be sure that the doctor he/she chooses does not work for the insurance carrier.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I screen my calls to be sure that I can help the person calling. Sometimes I think I give too much information.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I am a former worker's compensation judge and mediator, not many lawyers can make that claim. Again, I do not take a percentage of my client's comp checks.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Getting the client back into the workforce and hopefully with settlement funds in his pocket.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Family, restoration of boats.
