About Gregory
GREGORY L. SHELTON is an equity member in the firm of McNaughton & Shelton, PLLC. Greg is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Florida, and is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as a specialist in the field of construction law.
Greg was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida. He received his B.S. degree in finance from the Florida State University College of Business in 1991. He received his J.D. degree with honors from the Florida State University College of Law in 1995. During law school, Greg served as executive editor of the Law Review. As a third year law student, he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable William Stafford, United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida.
Greg regularly speaks at seminars on a variety of topics relevant to the industry and has authored many legal articles, including The Economic Loss Rule in North Carolina: Time to Wake the Sleeping Giant, 10 North Carolina State Bar Journal 27 (Fall 2005); Sextant or Kaleidoscope? Greg's law review article, In Search of the Lost Amendment , 23 Fla. St. U. L. Rev. 105 (1995), is cited as authority in numerous law reviews and in the constitutional law section of Florida Jurisprudence (Second).
Greg began his career at Butler & Long, P.A. in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1996, he moved to Miami, Florida to work at Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A., one of the largest law firms in South Florida. Greg then worked at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP's Tampa and Charlotte offices. Before forming McNaughton & Shelton, PLLC, Greg was a partner in the Charlotte office of Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP.
Greg is admitted to practice in all North Carolina and Florida state and federal courts. Greg is a member of the Construction Law Section and the Litigation Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry, the ABA Section of Public Contract Law, the ABA Litigation Section, Construction Financial Management Association, Associated Builders and Contractors, National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, North Carolina Utility Contractors Association, and Professional Construction Estimators Association.
