Clients should look for a lawyer who knows where the case needs to go. Is he willing to take the time to understand the many facets of your case? Is he willing to think outside the box? A client needs to feel that he is the lawyer's only client when he is with him.

Every prosecutor has a "home field advantage". The better you know the locals involved in any particular case, the better you can negate that home field advantage.

The initial free phone consultation primarily serves as a triage of sorts. How serious is the situation? How involved do the issues appear to be? Are there any apparent defenses? Then I can propose options and strategies with an eye towards getting the best possible result.

First, are there any court dates? Is the defendant in custody and then, how do we get him out? What are the basic facts?

I was a prosecutor for a very long time. I understand how they think and how they're looking to resolve a case. I understand how prosecutors assess what a case is worth and what factors would increase or decrease that case's value so I can entice them to work with us to serve my clients' best interests. If a case needs to go to trial, I understand how the prosecutor will prepare his case and where the case's weaknesses may be.

I love those moments when someone who had come into my office all in a panic, leaves my office feeling ""Hey, we can do this""
