Prior to becoming officially licensed by the Utah State Bar as an attorney, Mr. Stone clerked at the Public Defender's Office.  He was one of very few law students who actually are afforded the opportunity to handle cases, and represent clients, prior to actually becoming officially licensed as an attorney.  This is a rare opportunity for law students and only the most qualified are allowed to do so.  Not only does a supervising attorney have to sign off on allowing this to happen, the District Attorney, as well as a District Court Judge must also agree that the law student is competent to handle a real live case.  Mr. Stone passed this qualification a full year prior to even graduating from law school and a year and a half prior to becoming an officially licensed attorney in the State of Utah.  Not only did Mr. Stone pass the qualification, to represent clients, prior to becoming an actual attorney, he secured a not guilty verdict for a client at trial and suppressed evidence in another felony case, resulting in a dismissal, all before he even began his third year in law school.

Mr. Stone also has the academic accolades to back up his Courtroom experience.  He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, with honors, from the University of Utah and was awarded an additional Certificate in Criminology and Corrections at the same time.  He went on and attended Thomas Jefferson School of Law, in San Diego, where he graduated with a Juris Doctor, ranking 7 out of 134 students, nearly the top 5% of the class, and achieved Cum Laude status at graduation.

Mr. Stone is licensed in all Utah Courts, including the Utah Court of Appeals and the Utah Supreme Court.  Mr. Stone is also licensed in the Federal U.S. District Court, District of Utah, as well as the Federal 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, located in Denver, Colorado. 

Mr. Stone is a member of the Utah State Bar, the Utah State Bar Criminal Division, the Utah State Bar Litigation Section, the Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Association of Justice (formerly the National Trial Lawyer's Association), the American Bar Association, as well as having been named, in 2005, to Who's Who Among American Lawyers, an anonymous nomination, by other lawyers across the country, signifying their thoughts about the quality of another lawyer.
