About Henry

Henry W. Morrow, Jr., known to his friends and colleagues as "Bucky," graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the West Virginia University College of Law in 1982 and immediately joined a general practice with his father, Henry W. Morrow, in Charles Town, West Virginia. His early days included writing wills and administration of estates together with a busy real estate and banking practice his father had enjoyed for many years. In addition to his day-to-day law practice, he also served as a part-time, appointed mental heath judge (mental hygiene commissioner) and chief mental health judge for the 23rd Circuit (Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan Counties) from 1987 to 1999. Presently, while he still maintains a broad, general practice, the bulk of his time is centered around probate and estate administration including estate litigation. Bucky's accomplishments are varied and many. He has served on numerous local and regional arts and other nonprofit boards and has been active in community and civic affairs for many years. In 1979, he was one of the co-founders of the Millbrook Orchestra and served as its executive director until 1994. He served as a special consultant in mental health matters to the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals planning and directing mandated state-wide mental health law education and training seminars. His students included judges, magistrates, lawyers, psychologists, doctors, nurses and social workers from all parts of West Virginia. He designed and created all of the original forms presently used by the courts in West Virginia in involuntary commitment and conservator guardian matters. He was tapped to serve on the Court's Mental Hygiene Reform Commission following two terms as chair of the West Virginia Mental Health Planning Council. He has served as an elected governor on the West Virginia State Bar Board of Governors and chaired the Bar's Public Information Committee. He has recently been appointed to a three-year term on the West Virginia State Bar Lawyer Disciplinary Board. Bucky's father and law partner, Henry W. Morrow, The other "Morrow" of Morrow and Morrow, was born in 1919, began practice in 1942, and died in 2004. Today, Bucky carries on the proud tradition his father established in 1942 as a sole practitioner keeping the firm name in memory of his father.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

In several cases I have been able to prepare and file the proper and appropriate documents for estate administration in both contested and uncontested estate matters and have guided the executors/administrators/personal representatives in the proper, quick and expeditious settlement of estates.

How did you build a successful practice?

By carefully examining my clients' legal needs at the outset of representation, by recommending only such legal services that were required by the situation, and by insuring timely and diligent responses to my clients.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Experience, past success, candor and honesty

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

It is important in knowing how the local processes and agencies work in any individual matter in order to quickly and efficiently handle clients' matters with those agencies.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I can provide whether the client's matter is in an area in which I practice and, depending on where the client resides whether contact in-person or by telephone can handle the matter appropriately and define next steps for the potential client.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Name, gist of the legal matter to be addressed and availability for an office appointment.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Each client is important to me and I limit my caseload so that I can provide personalized and individualized service to each client. My clients deal only with me, I maintain constant contact with my clients as required by the legal matter, I return phone calls and emails promptly, usually within an hour or two or receipt, and my clients tell me I make them feel that their case is important, not just to them, but also to me as their lawyer.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Helping clients define and achieve their objectives.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Music and the Arts

Are you involved in your community?

I serve on the West Virginia Lawyer Disciplinary Board and am active in local politics. I have also served on the West Virginia State Bar Board of Governors.
