Recently I was represented a man who was greatly concerned about his three (3) young children. Physical custody of his children had been awarded to his ex-wife in the original divorce proceedings. I did not represent him in the original divorce proceedings. His concerns were based on what he believed was an inappropriate situation at his ex-wife's home. His ex-wife was drinking a lot, leaving the children unattended, and had had a series of relationships with various men who she brought to her home for overnights when the children were with her. On my client's behalf I filed a Post-Judgment Petition to Change Physical Custody. We were successful in changing the physical custody. I believe that the change in physical custody of the three (3) children has greatly benefited them and placed them in safe and appropriate environment with their father.

In any initial telephone conversation I normally spend as much time with the potential client as I can. I try to answer all questions, explain the legal steps to accomplish their goal, explain the initial attorney fees and costs.

I need basic information such as their name, address, age, marital status, etc... I need to know what they believe their problem is, what they are trying to do to address their problem and the underlying factual history. As I discuss legal matters with potential clients I usually allow them to tell me whatever information they believe is important. Listening to them is extremely important so we begin resolving their problem the correct way.

My willingness to listen and let clients fully explain in the initial telephone call. Most attorneys tell the potential client to just make an appointment I listen carefully then discuss potential avenues for the client to pursue. I am never in a hurry, on the telephone, in conferences or in court, I'm always very patient and deliberate in handling my clients problems.

Helping families resolve problems and making a difference in the lives of my clients and their children is at the top of my list.
