About Ira

Ira N. Loewy began his career in criminal law in 1975 as a prosecutor with the Florida Attorney General's Office handling criminal appeals. In 1978 he was recruited by Janet Reno, who at the time was State Attorney for Dade County, Florida, where he worked for six years as a prosecutor, and soon because Chief of her Appeals Section and head of the legal division. Prior to leaving government employment in 1984, Ira N. Loewy had become Deputy Chief Assistant State Attorney, in which position he supervised the public corruption, narcotics and legal divisions of the State Attorney's office.

In 1984 Mr. Loewy left government employment to join Donald I. Bierman and Edward R. Shohat in their criminal defense firm. Over the past fifteen years Mr. Loewy has practiced criminal defense work with Mr. Bierman and Mr. Shohat and, more recently, with partner Theodore Klein, representing a wide range of crimes in federal and state court. While Mr. Loewy handles all aspects of criminal matters, from investigations through trial litigation and appeals, he has continued to specialize in the handling of criminal appeals. Mr. Loewy is a member of the Bar for the United States Supreme Court and of nearly all federal appellate circuits. He has argued cases in appeals courts throughout the country, including the Nevada Supreme Court and the Georgia Court of Appeals. In recent years Mr. Loewy has become involved in the handling of numerous federal and state forfeiture matters, where he has enjoyed great success in retrieving assets seized for forfeiture by the federal and state governments.
